1.12 Doug’s Thoughts

Hey guys,

I guess I’ll write something. I’m having a hard time thinking of a vision for this blog so maybe it will be nice to actually have some posts on here. I really don’t know what categories we want on the menu. Maybe we can each just control what we have under our names on the menu.

I think I felt like writing something because I’m feeling really positive right now. I just got back from a volunteer training event. I haven’t mentioned it to you guys but my main goal of 2017 is to volunteer more. In a couple weeks, the city of Austin tries to count the homeless and I’m going to help with that. This one of those things that causes me to realize how special Austin is. They mentioned how the city gets over twice as many volunteers as bigger cities like Philadelphia. They also discussed how the mayor helps out with this.

The count happens from 3am to 7am on a Saturday morning too. Mayor Adler is cool and I could probably write an entire blog post about him.

I’m also excited for this weekend. Friday night I’m going to listen to DeRay Mckesson speak. He’s a civil rights leader that I follow on twitter and I’m a big fan. Then on Saturday I’m going trail running with a group in the morning. A political event that is run by Our Revolution, which is basically the result of Bernie’s run for president. And Saturday night I’m playing Settlers of Catan with friends. I’ve never played it before but really want to. Sunday morning I’m running with a friend. I might go to another political event that my friend Natalie is helping run. Then I’m going on a date that evening. We’re going to get dinner and go to a storytelling event.

I just bragged about Austin and my weekend but hopefully all my posts aren’t like this. The weather was really nice in Austin today though ha (75 degrees). Also, Notre Dame is 4-0 in the ACC so that’s cool. If they hadn’t blown double-digit leads to Villanova and Purdue they might be ranked #1 right now. The only thing that sucks for me right now is that Trump is going to be president soon. I’ll probably have to vent about that on here later.

I’m really excited to see this blog grow.

Peace and love

  1. Awesome job with the post Doug. The homeless count is so cool too. What you are doing is very inspirational. I believe volunteering your time is like taking Onnit supplements for the soul.

I miss being able to chill with you in person but I’m so happy you found a community that offers everything you love.

Thanks for taking the torch first, I’m excited about what this blog turns in to as well! Have a great weekend Doug-a-boo!
